La Plata County's annual driving tour hits the road on June 28th, and according to a recent public dashboard released by Governor Jared Polis, Colorado has lost 76 million in federal cuts so far with additional funds at risk. The annual driving tour is back June 28th Every year, the La Plata County Historic Preservation Review Commission hosts a self-guided driving tour of historic sites in La Plata County. This year's tour will hit the road at the old Fort Lewis campus in HESIs. The all day event will cover the history of the old fort as an army outpost to its roles as an Indian boarding school, high school, college, and now its use as an agricultural hub for La Plata County. The tour starts with history lectures at 10:00 AM followed by a self-guided tour of the farm from one to 4:00 PM attendees can view the dairy barn, blacksmith, shop restored buildings, the horse barn, and the root cellar. The event is free and lunch will be available to purchase. For more information, visit the La Plata County website. Governor Polis has launched a new public dashboard that displays federal fund reductions across Colorado counties. The dashboard shows Colorado has lost more than $76 million in federal funding with an additional 56 million at risk of cuts. The data show that total cuts for La Plata County alone amounts to nearly $3 million. The cuts are the result of the Trump administration's attempt to cut federal spending.
