The Durango Spring Rewards Program is back as of April 1st, Alpine Bank and the Durango Business Improvement District are teaming up to encourage shopping and eating locally. When shoppers have spent a certain amount, they can submit their receipts to be approved for a gift card of 25 or $50 from their chosen rewards business. The program will continue until all 250 rewards have been claimed. For instructions and participating businesses, visit the Durango Business Improvement District's website. The 28th annual Durango Bluegrass Meltdown is happening the weekend of April 19th through the 21st. The event kicks off with a free concert at Ernie's at 11th Street Station. Saturday and Sunday will include band contests, jam sessions, and Bluegrass bands playing at various locations around Durango. Tickets are available online or in-person at Animas Trading Company. Durango Sustainable Goods invites you to an Earth Day film screening of "Fashion Reimagined" on April 12th at 6:00 PM. The event costs $5 and we'll include a pre-screening mocktail hour, and post screening discussion. The film focuses on the environmental impact of the fashion industry and sustainable changes through the story of designer and activist Amy Powney. New presidents have been appointed for Fort Lewis College and Pueblo Community College. Fort Lewis College has appointed Steven Schwartz as Interim Vice President for Finance and Administration starting May 6th. Schwartz has been on staff at Fort Lewis College for nearly 27 years, and recently created a mortgage assistance program to help employees with homeownership. Colorado Community College System has announced Dr. Chato Hazelbaker as the New President of Pueblo Community College, Dr. Hazelbaker has over 20 years of experience in higher education, including as President of Northland Pioneer College in Arizona, and Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing for Carroll College in Montana.
