Ignacio High school student athletes celebrated historic wins this fall with both the men's cross country and the women's volleyball teams making it to State in Class 2A. Ignacio High School students had a stellar fall season this year with two teams having historic wins. The women's volleyball team made it to State finishing in the top eight. They're the first women's team sport to win a game at State Finals since '87. In cross country, the men's team made it to State for the first time since 1988 and placed 17th overall in 2A. Winter sports kicked off this month on November 13th. Find these schedules of upcoming games at the Bobcat's Athletic Website. Mark your calendars for the return of the Annual Taste of Christmas, Friday, December 1st. The Light Parade will kick off the event at 4:00 PM followed by events at the ELHI Community Center and the Ignacio Community Library at 4:30. There will be goodie bags, photos with Santa, The Fill Your Bowl Fundraiser for the Dancing Spirit Center for the Arts, and the DIY Christmas Tree Fundraiser. Enjoy hot chocolate, snacks and the holiday atmosphere heading into the holiday season. Speaking of the DIY Christmas Tree Fundraiser, drop off for the trees begins November 27th, up until three o'clock December 1st. Families and local businesses are invited to decorate a three foot tall tree for the silent auction, which begins the week of Taste of Christmas. Bidding stops at 8:00 PM on the first and all proceeds will go towards supporting youth groups in Ignacio. San Juan Basin Public Health will close December 31st this year. La Plata and Archuleta Counties will now be responsible for providing public health services to their individual county as part of the closures, which was voted and decided on in 2022 by the county's Board of Commissioners. La Plata County Public Health will begin providing services in January, 2024 and will be a source for environmental health, maternal child health programs, vital records, consumer protection, harm reduction services, and more.
