Hi, I'm Beth Drum, and I am a proud employee owner at Alpine Bank. Giving back to the community is one of Alpine Bank's core values, as it is with the many nonprofits that serve our community. We invite you to meet some of these changemakers as part of our series, "Community Matters."

From the Durango Independent Film Festival to Derailers, the "Community Matters" series has highlighted a variety of local nonprofits through the community.

"Community Matters" is just a great segment that allows us to highlight nonprofits throughout the year, really put them in the spotlight, let 'em tell their story, tell us what they're working on, goals and obstacles that they have.

Alpine Bank sponsors the stories which run for a month, as well as a 30-second promotional video for the nonprofit to use on their website, social media, and however else they choose. The video also runs as an advertisement on the local news network for 30 days alongside the main segment.

Every month I get a look at what's going on within our community and see what nonprofits are up to. There's some great heart-wrenching stories out there and all the goodness that's come from really nonprofits that help us that we don't necessarily get to see on a day-to-day basis.

This year "Community Matters" featured Manna Soup Kitchen, Stillwater Music, Durango Derailers, the Boys & Girls Club, Durango Youth Baseball, the Iron Horse 50 year celebration, the Durango Film Festival, and the La Plata Family Centers Coalition.

One of the reasons that we do donate to all these nonprofits is community is one of my personal values. It's also a value of our organization. It's up on our wall, and we live it. One of the ways we're able to financially do that is through our loyalty debit card program, where every time somebody swipes their card, their debit card, Alpine Bank takes 10 cents out of our pocket and we put it into a bucket, and then those funds get collected and then they get dispersed whenever there is a need within our community, and that allows us to double our donation efforts. On any given year, that equates to over $300,000 in La Plata County this year.

Alpine Bank is a proud sponsor of local nonprofits in both time, people and financial support. And during this time of year, many of these nonprofits are in greater need of volunteers and donations and offer many avenues for how you can best support them.
