And prospective city council candidates need to have their 25 signatures by February 7th. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Kroegers ACE Hardware and The Payroll Department. I'm Wendy Graham Settle. Prospective city council candidates have until Tuesday, February 7th, at 3 PM to turn in their 25 verified signatures. Two city council seats will be up for election this April, Signatures must be verifiable registered electors of the city of Durango. And although 25 signatures may not seem like a lot, there are many reasons a signature may not count including, the signer uses a nickname rather than their legal name, the signer hasn't updated their address with voter registration and has moved since the last election, the signer fails to include the street designation, the signer fails to include their unit number or apartment number, the signer lists a post office box rather than a residential address, the signer's printed signature is unreadable. Prospective candidates must have scheduled an appointment with the city clerk to pick up a candidate packet. Only after that meeting can signatures be collected. Visit the election tab on the City of Durango's website to learn more about the election process and view important dates for candidates. Winter Bike to Work Day is Friday, February 10th from 7-9 AM, as part of this years Winter Business Commuter Challenge. From Saturday, February 4th through Friday, February 10th, local businesses and organizations can compete to see who can bike, bus, walk, roll, carpool, or telecommute the most. You may need to break out a shovel or two for the sidewalk in front of your house. The winner will receive the coveted Snowflake trophy, which will be presented at a celebration on the 10th at Carver Brewing at 5 PM. Visit Durango's Transit page for more information on the trophy, other prizes, and the passport. The Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles is hosting the Great License Plate Contest or the Historic Colorado Contest, to vote on the design of the new Colorado license plate to celebrate the State's 150th anniversary.
