The Durango-La Plata County Airport received the Airport Project Of The Year from the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association, on February 8th, for it's Runway Rehabilitation Project. The rehabilitation project, DRO Runway 3-21, repaved 1.38 million square feet of the runway's surface, new runway paint markings, an all-new LED runway edge lighting system, and repaved the taxiway connector system. The project caused the airport to be closed for 10 days, until it was completed on September 16th, and the project has been nominated for awards on a national level. Brad Riddle, Airport Operations Manager, accepted the award with representatives from Dibble Engineering, the engineering firm for the project, and staff from Four Corners Materials. City residents with a household income that is no more than 50% of the area median family income for La Plata County, are eligible for the Food Tax Rebate Program and the Utility Refund Program. Applications opened on February 13th. Rebate and refund amounts are determined by family size, according to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, for 2022. Application materials are available at Durango City Hall, Durango Regional Transit Center, The Durango-La Plata Senior Center, and online at durangogov.org/rebates. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted by July 7th, 2023. TBK Bank invites high school seniors to apply for the TBK Bank Scholars Program. The $1,000 scholarship is for high school seniors who intend to continue their education after high school, and is open to everyone. Applicants don't need to be a registered account holder with TBK Bank. Applications are due Friday, March 31st. Learn more and find information about these stories and others at durangolocal.news.
