FOURANIMAS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ARE SPENDING THEIR TIME DURING THECOVID-19 SHUTDOWN HELPING OTHERS IN THE COMMUNITY.

THANKSFOR WATCHING THE LOCAL NEWS NETWORK, BROUGHT TO YOU BY SERIOUS TEXASBARBECUE. I'M WENDY GRAHAM SETTLE.

EVERYSPRING, GRADUATING SENIORS AT ANIMAS HIGH SCHOOL END THEIRPUBLIC-EDUCATION CAREERS WITH A CAPSTONE PROJECT THAT INCLUDES ARESEARCH PAPER, COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT, AND A TED TALK DESCRIBINGTHEIR EXPERIENCE. BUT WITH THIS YEAR'S COVID-19 SHUTDOWN, HANNAHSHEW, SYDNEY BEEKMAN, EMILY BADGLEY AND DESIRAE MERRILL SAW THEIRPROJECTS DISAPPEAR OVERNIGHT. THAT'S WHEN THEY STARTED STUDENTS ATYOUR SERVICE DURANGO.

ALOT OF COOL PROJECTS AND DIFFERENT SERVICE PROJECTS THAT WE THINK CANMAKE A REALLY BIG IMPACT IN. IT'S MEANINGFUL TO US BECAUSE WE DIDN'THAVE A LOT TO DO RIGHT NOW AND WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OFPOPULATIONS THAT ARE A LOT MORE VULNERABLE THAN US AS YOUNG HEALTHYTEENAGERS. SO WE WANTED TO DO ANYTHING WE COULD TO HELP.

THEFOUR RUN ERRANDS, TRANSPORT FOOD TO FOOD BANKS AND FOOD-INSECUREFAMILIES, TUTOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ONLINE, AND GO GROCERY SHOPPINGFOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS HELP.

ITHINK THE MOST COMMON REQUEST WE GET IS JUST REALLY BUSY PARENTS WITHCHILDREN WHO ARE DOING SCHOOLWORK AND THEY'RE TRYING TO FIT WORKLIFE. AND THEY'RE JUST ALSO JUST WORRIED ABOUT GETTING OUT AND TO THEGROCERY STORE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE DOING REALLY BIG SHOPS. WE HAVE ALOT OF FAMILIES THAT GIVE US KIND OF A LIST FOR, YOU KNOW, TWO WEEKS.SO WE'RE DOING LARGE SHOPS FOR THEM AND SO THEY DON'T WANT TO BESPENDING THAT MUCH TIME IN THE GROCERY STORES, YOU KNOW, BRINGINGSTUFF BACK TO THEIR FAMILY SO THAT'S THAT'S MOSTLY WHAT WE'RE DOING.

THEGROUP ALSO  HAS WORKED WITH THE GOOD FOOD COLLECTIVE, THEDURANGO FOOD BANK, MANNA SOUP KITCHEN, AND THE FIRST PRESBYTARIANCHURCH IN DURANGO TO DELIVER MORE THAN 600 POUNDS OF FOOD TOLOCATIONS THROUGHOUT LA PLATA COUNTY. SHEW PLANS TO ATTEND THECOLORADO COLLEGE THIS FALL TO PURSUE A DEGREE IN SCIENCE ANDEVENTUALLY GET HER DOCTORATE TO BECOME A PHYSICAL THERAPIST. HERSENIOR THESIS EXPLORED HOW PHYSICAL ACTIVITY BENEFITS AT-RISK YOUTH,AND SHE HAD PLANNED TO ORGANIZE A FITNESS COMPETITION THIS SPRING.ALTHOUGH THEIR COMMUNITY-SERVICE WORK  HAS NOTHING TO DO WITHTHEIR ORIGINAL SENIOR PROJECTS, SHEW SAID THE EXPERIENCE HAS BEENWORTH THE EFFORT.

YOUCAN REALLY SEE THE IMPACT RIGHT WHEN IT HAPPENS. YOU CAN SEE FACES

LIGHTUP AND THINGS LIKE THAT. SO IT'S REALLY COOL AND MEANINGFUL FOR US ASWELL.

STUDENTSAT YOUR SERVICE WILL CONTINUE TO FILL REQUESTS FOR ERRANDS THROUGHTHE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. IF YOU'D LIKE HELP WITH ERRANDS ORSHOPPING, FILL OUT THE REQUEST FORM ON THEIR WEBSITE ATSTUDENTSATYOURSERVICEDGO.WEEBLY.COM.THANKS FOR WATCHING THIS EDITION OF THE LOCAL NEWS NETWORK.
