Southwest Colorado continues to experience moderate to extreme drought conditions with snow pack levels slightly below normal. According to US Department of Agriculture snow-tel sites in the San Juan mountains, snow pack is 91% of normal at this time of year, just slightly higher than last year. Area reservoirs are filling but given water depletion from last year dust on snow, wind and warmer temperatures could reduce the amount of water that makes it to storage facilities and affect the amount of water available for irrigation. Vallecito reservoir is at 43% of capacity, Lemon is at 38% of capacity, McPhee 20% and Navajo 38%. For more information visit the Us Bureau Reclamation website at usbr.gov. Get your fishing gear ready. Colorado parks and wildlife recently stock lake Nighthorse with one 150,000 Kokanee Salmon and more than 20,000 brown trout this spring. Trees are getting their leaves back and grass is turning green but that also means that noxious weeds will return. You can learn how to identify weeds before they get out of control at Noxious Weed Workshop scheduled for 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11th at the La Plata County fairgrounds. County weed control manager Ben Bain will present a slideshow, plant samples and we'll discuss integrated weed management techniques. The workshop is free, but preregistration is required.
